Eastern Track & Field Set For Spartan Invitational

The Eagles will compete in East Lansing, Mich., April 1-2
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Following a solid opening weekend to the outdoor season, the Eastern Michigan track & field team is ready to trek to East Lansing, Mich. for the Spartan Invitational, April 1-2. The two-day meet will be hosted by Michigan State University, with Friday's action set to begin at noon, and will pick up at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Last weekend, the women's team saw two individuals produce exceptional performances in senior Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) and junior Sofia Ivanko (Buenos Aires-St. Matthew's college). At the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, March 26, thrower Clarke crushed her outdoor school-record shot put mark of 14.83m with a 15.51m toss to place fourth in the event. Additionally, the throw is the senior's career-best across both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Two days prior, Ivanko shined in the 10,000m race at the Raleigh Relays with a personal-best 35:15.15 performance, the fourth-fastest time in program history, March 24. Moreover, the time is a U-23 national record in Argentina.
On the men's side, sophomore Josh Hill (Amherst, Ohio-Amherst Steel) recorded a career-best 14:16.49 time in the 5000m at the Raleigh Relays, March 24, which paces the Mid-American Conference. In the field, senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Va.) (Bethany College)) currently ranks third in both the long jump (7.18m) and triple jump (15.35m) after his outing at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, March 26.
Next week, Eastern will split up once again with meets in Knoxville, Tenn. and Rochester, Mich. A select number of Eagles will attend the Tennessee Relays, April 7-9, hosted by the University of Tennessee. Meanwhile, others will remain in the Mitten State to compete at the Golden Grizzlies Invite, hosted by Oakland University, April 8-9.
