Seniors Ty Celone tied for fourth while Cougar Collins finished in a tie for eighth

GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Seniors Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) and Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) led the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team on the final day of the Craft Farms Intercollegiate Tuesday, March 29. Celone finished in a tie for fourth with a season-best 211 (72-67-72) while Collins tied for eighth with a 215 (70-74-71) on the 72, 7,107-yard Cotton Creek Golf Course at Craft Farms Golf Resort setup.
For Celone, the finish marked the fourth top-five showing of his career and the first of the season. Meanwhile, it was the first top-10 finish of the year and fourth overall for Collins in 40 career events.
Host South Alabama (842) was the wire-to-wire winner, beating Southern Illinois (865) and Georgia State (865) by 23 strokes. The Eagles shot rounds of 289, 291, and 292 for a total of 872 in a three-way tie for seventh. EMU was two shots behind Rice (870) and 10 in front of Illinois State (882).
How It Happened
Behind Celone and Collins, senior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) was consistent with rounds of 74, 75, and 73 to finish tied for 36th at a 222. Sophomore Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) added a 224 (73-75-76) for 49th, while sophomore MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) carded a final round 76 to reside in 57th at 227 (74-77-76).
Playing as an individual, sophomore Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) tied for 71st with a 236 (81-75-80).
