GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) fired a two-under 70 and sits just three shots off the pace at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate, March 27.
Collins shot a 34 on the front side before adding a 36 on the back nine. Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard and South Alabama's Jack Hearn share the opening day lead with a 67 on the par 72, 7,107-yard Cotton Creek Golf Course at Craft Farms Golf Resort.
As a team, the Eagles carded a day one score of 289 to sit in a tie with SIU, while USA holds down the top spot with an 18-hole tally of 277.
How It Happened
After Collin's 70, senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) racked up four birdies to finish the day in a tie for 14th-place at 72. Sophomore Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) is just one shot back in a tie for 21st with a 73. Rounding out the lineup, senior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) and sophomore MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) posted a 74 to reside in 33rd.
