EMU Tennis Earns First MAC Win in Sunday Doubleheader Action

3/27/2022 10:18:00 PM | Tennis

The Eagles defeated Bowling Green 4-3, and Lourdes 4-0

PERRYSBURG & LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team went 2-0 in doubleheader action Sunday, March 27. Eastern first topped Bowling Green State University, 4-3, before defeating Lourdes University 4-0. The Eagles move to 11-11 overall, and 1-2 in Mid-American Conference play.

"It was good to get a much-needed MAC victory after coming so close on Friday," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "Despite falling behind after doubles we did a great job of taking the first four singles matches off the court to seal the victory."

Wiseman added, "Despite Lourdes being shorthanded, it was good to get some of our players who didn't play against BG some match time."

How It Happened
Eastern started the day at Bowling Green where it again saw success from the No. 2 doubles pairing of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-College of Commerce and Economics). The freshmen won their match 6-3, however the Eagles were unable to clinch the doubles point. In singles action, Vichare earned her second win of the day at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4. The Green and White also scored points in victories from redshirt sophomore Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education), 6-4, 7-5, redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)), 6-4, 6-0, and redshirt junior Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Dominique Saint Pau), 6-4, 6-0. The three wins from the four, five, and six spots, respectively, helped claim the 4-3 road triumph.

Against Lourdes, EMU won 4-0, with freshman Asia Allen (Sanford, Fla.-Seminole (Rio Grande Valley)) and redshirt senior Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) earning a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Pommiers (6-0, 6-0), Allen (6-3, 6-1), and redshirt junior Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem College)) (6-1, 6-0) also secured wins in singles, at one through three, respectively.
