RALEIGH, N.C. & Coral Gables, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field program wrapped up an action-packed weekend at the Raleigh Relays, March 24-26, and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, March 26.
"It was great to kick off our outdoor season at Raleigh and Miami," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "Like most first meets of a new season, there were ups and downs but overall it was a good start and we're excited to build momentum from here."
"Today was a solid opener across the board," added Associate Head Coach Chris Best. "With being limited during the indoor and early outdoor season, it allowed us to get outdoors, compete in good weather, and allow us to to see what we need to work on heading into April. Each meet is about looking at this one and seeing what we need to work on to keep improving."
How It Happened
Senior Rebecca Odusola (Chicago, Ill.-Mather (Indiana State)) and freshman Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich.-Cadillac) concluded the Eagles' time in North Carolina with 800m efforts of 2:14.65 and 2:19.98, respectively.
At the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, Eastern produced strong marks and times across the board. Senior thrower Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) continues to have a stellar year as she crushed her school-record shot put mark of 14.83m with a 15.51m toss. Elsewhere in the field, senior Joe Duff (Crosswell, Mich.-Crosswell-Lexington (Concordia)) picked up EMU's sole victory this weekend with a win in the javelin throw (58.75m).
In sprints, sophomore Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones (Morehead State)) registered a personal-best 100m dash time of 11.87 for fourth. Classmate Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) ran a solid 21.37 clip in the 200m race to take seventh overall.
Freshman Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla.-Dillard) paced the Eagles in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 48.52. Sophomore Noriyah Johnson (Chanai, Greece-Second General (Abilene Christian)) recorded a time of 55.53 in the same event to round out the top five.
Sophomore Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)) produced a fourth-place finish in the 110H (14.14), while junior Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) notched seventh in the 100H (14.11).
The women's 4x400m relay team of freshman Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla.-The-Out-of-Door-Academy), junior Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School), senior Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start), and Johnson took home bronze with a time of 3:43.51.
In the high jump, freshman Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) had an excellent outdoor opener with a 2.06m clearance. Sophomore teammate Ousman Kamara (Coatesville, Pa.-Coatesville) reached the same height for a personal best. Meanwhile, junior Nina Ward (Fairfield, Ohio-Fairfield) placed third in the event with a 1.66m effort. Senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Va.)(Bethany College)) finished second in the triple jump (15.35m) and fourth in the long jump (7.18m).

» Clarke's 15.51m shot put mark is the best in program history by over one meter. The second-best outdoor shot put effort was a 14.38m throw from Vesna Cadikovska in 2001.
» Hill and Kamara both achieved a clearance of 2.06m in the high jump, the best marks in the event since former Eagle Cameron Hart reached 2.07m at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships, May 11.
