Ella Chemotti Qualifies For NCAA Regional Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The NCAA Gymnastics Selection Show announced today, March 22, that Eastern Michigan University freshman gymnast Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.-Canton) earned an individual bid to the NCAA Norman Regional Championships. The regional will be hosted by Oklahoma University, held in Norman, Okla. at the Lloyd Noble Center, March 30.
"So excited for Ella to compete at Oklahoma," said Head Coach Katie Minasola. "It is a great venue to compete in and the experience will be awesome."
Qualification for national competition is based on the individual competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the national qualifying score (NQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. In former years, this was known as the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), which was changed for the 2019 season to reflect the new post-season format.
Chemotti led the conference on beam, with an NQS of 9.875, scoring 9.900-or-better three times this season. The freshman recorded a personal-best 9.950, Jan. 28, tying her for second all-time on the event. The Canton, Mich. native was tabbed as the MAC Freshman of the Year, became bars champion at the league meet, March 19, and was named to the All-MAC First Team. Her performance at the conference championship also landed her on the 2022 MAC All-Tournament Team.
