The graduate student earned First Team All-American status at the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 11

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field program saw graduate student Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) named to the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, league office announces today, March 16.

Bryant wrapped up his collegiate career at the NCAA Indoor Track & Championships, March 11-12, where he competed in the men's weight throw competition. In the event, the graduate student finished sixth with a toss of 22.21m to earn First Team All-American status for the first time.

The Edmond, Okla. native is the second Eagle in program history to be named a First Team All-American in the event as former Eagle Anthony Jones notched a seventh-place finish (21.52m) back in 2016. Bryant's performance over the weekend also gave his team three points to tie for 47th in the country, scoring more points than eleven "Power Five" teams. Additionally, the graduate student's effort topped his outing at last year's indoor meet when he took eleventh overall with a heave of 21.13m to earn Second Team All-American honors. Since 2000, Eastern's men's program has produced 19 All-Americans during the indoor season.

Bryant will leave EMU as the school's record-holder in the discus (58.27m) and hammer throw (67.43m), and second in the weight throw (23.01m).
