The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team could not complete a comeback in its regular-season finale, falling 196.350-195.375, to Northern Illinois University Sunday, March 13.

"I am super proud of this team," said Head Coach Katie Minasola. "Little by little we are improving. The way we finished the meet on floor was exciting. This is great energy to move into MAC Championship week with."

How It Happened
To start the meet, Eastern totaled 48.725 on vault, and was led by junior Molly Parris' (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson) score of 9.800, which tied for third. EMU trailed Northern Illinois' first rotation score of 49.050. On bars, sophomore Anna Grace McCullough (Birmingham, Ala.-Briarwood Christian) earned a career-high 9.900, and tied for first place. The Eagles totaled 48.950 on the event, but still trailed NIU, 97.975-97.675, halfway through the meet.

Freshman Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.-Canton) continued to lead the Eagles on beam, topping the lineup with a score of 9.850, tying for second. After the third rotation, Eastern trailed Northern Illinois 147.175-146.050. The Eagles saved their best for last, scoring 49.325 on floor, a season-high that tied for fifth in program history on the event. The Green and White were led by senior Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens), who earned a personal-best 9.900 to place second. Even with the big finish in the fourth rotation, Eastern could not top Northern Illinois' program record, falling 195.375-196.350.

In the all-around competition, Parris finished second with a total of 39.125, while sophomore Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Park Center) hit 39.000, and tied for third.
