RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) —  The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team heads west to the Grand Canyon State to participate in the 19th Annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, Feb. 25-27.  This year's field will comprise of 18 teams with four out of five individual scores counting toward the team total each day.

The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Western Michigan, runs from Friday through Sunday on the White Wing Golf Course at Rio Verde Country Club. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.

The event features seven Mid-American Conference programs: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, and WMU.

The field also includes Bradley, Butler, California Baptist, Illinois State, Kennesaw State, Loyola (Ill.), Missouri State, Oakland, South Dakota, Wichita State, and Xavier.

The event returns after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Originally known as the East/West Rio Verde Invitational, WMU, won the inaugural invitational in the spring of 2003 with a score of 614. The event moved from a 36-hole to a 54-hole format in 2005. This year's tournament returns to the White Wing Course, where it was last held in 2020.

In 2020, former Eagle Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) closed with a 73 to finish in a tie for ninth-place with a 223 (74-76-73) at the event after rain washed away the second round. Arkansas State won the rain-soaked tournament with a 880 (299-289-292), as Northern Illinois finished 12-strokes off the lead with a 892 (302-298-292). Eastern Michigan finished in 13th place with a 926 (307-316-303) in the field.

Junior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) will lead the lineup for the Eagles, followed by freshman Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario-Tommy Douglas Secondary School). In the No. 3 and 4 spots will be freshman Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) and sophomore Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland), while junior Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) will round out the lineup.
