Ramirez Earns MAC player of the Week Honors

The senior defensive end led EMU in tackles, TFLs, sacks, at Kent State, Nov. 16

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior defensive end Jose Ramirez (Lake Alfred, Fla.-Auburndale-Arizona-Riverside City) collected Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced today, Nov. 21. It marks the first time this season he has garnered the accolade, despite a program-record four sack performance at Western Michigan University earlier this season, Oct. 8.

Ramirez was outstanding in EMU's game against Kent State, Nov. 16. He finished with a team-high seven tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss. His TFL total is his second-best of the season, just behind the four he registered at WMU. Ramirez has 17.5 sacks in his career, which ties for fourth all-time in program history. Additionally, the 3.5 tackles for loss Ramirez recorded against Kent State moved him up to 31.0 TFLs in his career, moving him to No. 7 all-time at EMU. He currently ranks seventh in the nation with 9.0 sacks this season.

Eastern Michigan is will close its 2022 regular season with a home game against in-state rival, Central Michigan University Friday, Nov. 25, at noon. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, as well as on WEMU (89.1 FM) and the Varsity Network app.
