EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team is set for its first road game of the season with a meeting in the "Prairie State" against the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars, Sunday, Nov. 13. The matchup, which is the first between the two programs, will begin at 1 p.m. CT inside First Community Arena.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Fans can follow the action via live stats at EMUEagles.com/livestats. Additionally, the team's official Twitter account, @EMUWBB, will provide score updates throughout the contest.

THE SEASON PREMIERE: The 2022-23 season-opening doubleheader was dubbed 'The Season Premiere' and had a great turnout in terms of fans and results. The women defeated its opponent, Lindenwood University with a 71-56 result while the men defeated Wayne State University, 75-66. Gates opened at 4 p.m. ahead of the women's game, where fans walked the green carpet into the George Gervin GameAbove Center and had their "celebrity" photos taken. Fans in attendance for the premiere received a free T-shirt, a popcorn box with a voucher for one free box of popcorn, and several posters, including The Season Premiere poster and both teams' season schedule poster.

PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING: On Dec. 11, 2021, the home facility for Eastern Michigan basketball was changed from the Convocation Center to the George Gervin GameAbove Center. We ask that you utilize the full name of the facility when referencing Eastern's home court and not shorten the name. Thank you in advance for your assistance on this matter.

SEASON OPENERS: In 47 seasons, the Green and White have compiled a 32-15 record in season openers. Additionally, the Eagles have won nine of their last 11 lid lifters, including eight in-a-row between 2008-09 and 2018-19. Prior to the victory over Lindenwood, Nov. 7, the most recent Eastern victory in a season-opening game was in the shortened 2020-21 season when the Eagles began their season with a 65-52 road win over Southern Illinois, Nov. 25, 2020.

STARTING AT HOME: This season's lid-lifter marked the eighth time in the last 10 years that EMU has started the season on its home court. The Eagles are now 7-1 in those games with the only loss coming last season against Youngstown State University, which defeated the Green and White, 70-67, Nov. 9.

ALL-TIME IN HOME OPENERS: Eastern Michigan entered Monday's contest against Lindenwood with a 35-11 all-time record in home-opening contests. Prior to EMU's home-opening setback to Youngstown State (2021) and the University of Illinois-Chicago (2020), EMU had won 20 consecutive home openers (each season since 2000-20). With the victory over the Lions, Nov. 7, the Eagles now hold a 36-11 all-time record in home-openers.

CHASING 200: Following the 71-56 victory, Nov. 7, the Eastern Michigan women's basketball program has racked up 199 total wins inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center since it opened for play in the 1998-1999 season. EMU can get to 200 all-time with just one home win this season.

HOW NICE TO BE HOME: After the season-opener against Lindenwood, Eastern will play six more non-conference home games during the 2022-23 campaign. The seven total non-conference contests is the most for the program in a decade, when it played seven non-conference home games during the 2012-13 campaign.
Eastern Michigan went 3-1 in its non-league home games one season ago.

EARNING THEIR WINGS: A number of Eastern players made their debut with the Eagles in the win over Lindenwood including freshman Olivia Smith, sophomore transfer Tayra Eke, and senior Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu. The three accounted for 40 points in 72 total minutes of play.

look out for ozzy: Senior Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu recorded the Eagles' sole double-double of the night in the victory over Lindenwood, the 11th of her career and first in an Eastern jersey. The transfer student led the Green and White in points with 18 and 11 rebounds and was the only member of the team to be perfect from the free throw line (4-4).

Double-digit scorers: Three Eagles reached double-digit points in the victory over Lindenwood: Lachelle Austin (16), Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu (18) and Olivia Smith (13). The last time the Green and White recorded three or more players in double-digit scoring was at Ball State, March 5, 2022, when Austin, Ce'Nara Skanes, and Zaniya Nelson each registered 10 or more points.

KEEP CONTROL: The Eagles trailed the Lions just once in the first half and outscored the visiting team 36-24 in the first 20 minutes of competition. The Green and White continued their control over the game in the second half, grabbing an additional 35 points to cap off the win over Lindenwood, Nov. 7.

no-no-no: Eastern Michigan blocked nine shots in the win over Lindenwood, Nov. 7. That number is tied for seventh in the all-time record book for most blocks in a single-game inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The nine blocks are the third highest overall with the top-spot being 12.

TURNOVER TOWN: Eastern won the turnover battle 17 times in 27 outings, including 14 times during Mid-American Conference play one season ago. During league action, EMU had an eight-game span where it forced more turnovers than it gave up.
Staying true to its 2021-22 trend, the Green and White opened its 2022-23 season forcing 20 Lindenwood turnovers to Eastern's 10.

CAN'T LET THEM SCORE 70: EMU went 1-12 in 2021-22 when allowing 70+ points. Moreover, EMU is 9-68 when allowing 70+ points since the start of the 2016-17 season.
The Eagles defense has done a great job at limiting its opponent to only 56 points, thus far, starting the 2022-23 campaign, 1-0.

SCOUTING SIU-EDWARDSVILLE: Sunday's meeting with SIUE will mark the first between the two schools. The Red and White are scheduled to face the Saint Louis University Billikens today, Nov. 11, before hosting the Eagles Sunday, Nov. 13. Earlier in the week, SIUE hosted Missouri S&T in an exhibition game where the Minors bested the Cougars 82-79 in what was the first action for both teams this season.
Last year, SIUE finished with an 13-18 overall record and an 8-10 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Cougars appeared in the OVC tournament, defeating UT Martin 86-84 in the first round before falling to Murray State University, 76-84 in the quarterfinals to conclude their 2021-22 season.

FIRST TIME AGAINST THE COUGARS: The Green and White will face the Red and White for the first time in each other's program histories. Sunday's contest will start the all-time series record between the two.

ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles look forward to a seven non-conference home slate but will continue the show on the road, Sunday, Nov. 13 as the team takes on the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars at 1 p.m. inside Vadalabene Center on the campus of SIUE in Edwardsville, Ill.
