Women's Hoops Selected Ninth in Preseason Poll

Toledo predicted to be both regular and tournament champions
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team was selected ninth overall in the Mid-American Conference's preseason coaches' poll, released today, Oct. 27.
The league's head coaches took part in the poll, with each providing their predicted order of finish and 10 All-MAC player selections to the conference office. The results are then compiled into a point-based system to determine the final rankings.
The league's defending regular season champions the University of Toledo emerged as this year's favorite to capture the regular season crown once again, earning 143 points and 11 first-place votes. Ball State University was slotted second in the poll with 130 points and one first-place nod. Bowling Green State University (109) and Kent State (103) took the third and fourth spots, respectively, while Northern Illinois University (99) rounded out the top five. Eastern's in-state rival, Western Michigan University (91), placed sixth in the poll, with Ohio University (61), and the University of Akron (50), following in seventh and eighth, respectively. EMU found a spot in ninth (46) with defending tournament champions, the University at Buffalo, trailing in 10th (40). Miami University (35) and Central Michigan University (29) round out the poll in 11th and 12th, respectively.
Not only were the Rockets predicted to be regular-season champions, but also registered nine votes to be the 2023 tournament champions as well. The Cardinals were the only other member to receive votes for this category with three.
