Eagles Drop Match to Bowling Green on Senior Day
10/23/2022 4:21:00 PM | Soccer
Season finale awaits Eastern Michigan Thursday at Miami
How It Happened
The Falcons got on the board first as they struck in the 31' of play before doubling their advantage with a second score in the 40'. Following halftime, BGSU went on the attack and scored four goals in a 15-minute window, including goals at the 58', 63', 65', and 73' minute to make it 6-0.
The Eagles continued to battle, however, and prevented a shutout as Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich.-Bay City Western) scored on an assist from Sophia D'Ambra (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South). On the play, D'Ambra took control of the ball outside the box and passed over the defense where Lukowski chipped the oncoming keeper and into the net. The goal for Lukowski is her fourth of the year and gives her 10 points, making her the second EMU layer, alongside Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Catholic) to reach double-digit point totals in the same season since 2019.
Game Notes
» Eastern falls to 3-11-3 (2-7-1 MAC) on the year while Bowling Green improved to 7-5-4 (5-2-3 MAC).
» Lukowski netted her fourth goal of the season to bring her point total to 10.
» Lukowski and O'Farrell (5-3-13) give the Eagles multiple players with double-digit point totals for the first time since four players accomplished the feat in 2019 (Kristin Hullibarger Nason with 18; Lindsey Shira with 16, and both Amanda Cripps and Sabrina McNeill with 15 each).
» D'Ambra recorded the first assist of her career and is the sixth Eastern player this year to record at least one goal and one assist.
» Freshman Meghan Oliver (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) made her first career start. She is the eighth different freshman to earn a place in the Starting XI in 2022.
Historical Notes
» Eastern is now 248-234-63 all-time, needing just two more wins to reach the 250-win milestone.
» The Eagles fell to 15-14-2 all-time against the Falcons and have dropped two in a row in the series.
» The last time Eastern surrendered seven goals was Aug. 28, 2015, a 7-0 loss to DePaul University.
» The seven goals scored by Bowling Green are the most for either team in the 31-match series, surpassing the six scored by Eastern in its 6-4 win at home Oct. 1, 2010, and is the most by the Falcons since scoring four in that same match.
