Eagles finish in top half of field
BOSTON, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan rowing team opened up its official fall schedule today, October 22, at the Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Boston, Mass.
The Eagles' Women's Club Eight squad finished 17th out of 40 boats with a time of 17:16.227. Conference opponent Drexel University took first place with a time of 16:27.976.
Although the Green and White dropped one spot from its 16th place finish last year at the regatta, Eastern Michigan topped their previous time of 17:27.616 by more than 10 seconds.
POST RACE QUOTES
"We raced well technically today. We need to look at a couple setup changes to really get more speed out of the boat for the rest of the fall," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "Overall it was a better race than last year, but to get in the top 10 everything has to be right. We are excited to get home for our last race of the fall."
"We did exactly what we came here planning to do. Our race plan was just to row like we do at practice, my crew did a great job not letting the stress and pressure from such a big regatta affect their performance," said junior coxswain Abby Goodwin (Whitehouse, Ohio-Anthony Wayne). "We're all happy with how it went overall and excited to get our bid back and race next year."
