EMU Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback to Chippewas

Madeline Timmerman Earns Season-High 10 Kills
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team suffered a tough loss at Central Michigan University, Wednesday, Oct. 19 in a match decided by three sets inside McGuirk Arena.
The 3-0 conference loss moved Eastern Michigan's record to 3-18 overall and 2-7 in Mid-American Conference play.
Sophomore middle blocker Madeline Timmerman (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Crystal Lake) earned 10 kills on the day to lead the Eagles attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .261. The Green and White registered 15 digs from freshman Emma McMahon (Monoreville, Ind.-Bellmont) to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, losing a tough first set, 25-18. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as seven points as Central Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up five times before the Chippewas took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | EMU lost the second set 25-22, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Eagles couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way.
SET 3 | Despite great efforts, Eastern could not force a fourth set and was swept by Central Michigan. The Eagles fell in a tight set, losing 26-24 in a stanza that was tied four times and had two lead changes.
Match Notes
» Senior Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio.-Newark Catholic) had a match-high three aces in the loss, matching her season high set against the University of Toledo, Sept. 23. The outside hitter has provided the Green and White a team-high 22 aces thus far, five more than the next closest Eagle, Timmerman, with 17.
» Timmerman's 10 kills for Eastern Michigan is a season-high for the sophomore, topping her previous best of eight kills, which she has recorded in three matches this season. Additionally, the 10 kills matched her career-high set at Bowling Green State University, Oct. 22, 2021.
» McMahon's has 15 digs in the match. Tonight was her 18th match with double-digit digs this season, including her seventh consecutive. She now has 307 digs on the season, which is good for eighth in the league and 118th nationally.
» Sophomore Kendall Burk (Bloomington, Ill.- University) provided 28 helpers to the Eagles offense. She leads the Eagles in total assist with 403.

» The Eagles trail the Chippewas in the all-time series record 31-65.
» Under Head Coach Darcy Dorton, the Green and White now hold a 31-65 overall record and stand 20-43 in league play.
