EMU Climbs in Final Round, Kellett Takes Third at Flyer Invite

KETTERING, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team overcame the elements on the final day of the 13-team Dayton Flyer Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 18. With blustery, windy, and wet conditions that kept the temperatures in the mid-to-low 40s throughout the two-day event, senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) finished in third with a 217 (73-72-72) on the par-71, 7,004-yard NCR Country Club setup.
It marked the second top-five showing of the fall for Kellett, who edged out two players ranked in the GolfStat top-10. Illinois' Tommy Kuhl, slotted 10th nationally, tied for 10th with a 218, while the Fighting Illini's Adrien Dumont de Chassart, ranked fourth, tied for 14th at 222. For Kellett, the two-day tally was his second-best cumulative score of the year, previously finishing third at the Joe Feaganes Invitational, Sept. 12-13, with a 209 (65-72-72)
Marshall's Tyler Jones won the individual championship with an even-par score across the three rounds against a field that had four ranked golfers.
The No. 2-ranked Fighting Illini (881) held off a strong pushes from runner-up Marquette (885) and 36-hole leader Wright State (893). EMU placed eighth with a 54-hole tally of 908 (306-302-300).
How It Happened
Freshman Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario-Aurora) showed consistency with a 226 (76-75-75) in a tie for 22nd. Freshman Logan Graf (Sylvan Lake, Alberta-HJ Cody) added a 231 (79-78-74) in a 44th, while classmate Cooper Eberle (Richmond Ky.-Madison Central) was 59th after turning in a score of 234 (78-77-79). Junior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) concluded his fall in 73rd, notching a 241 (79-83-79). Participating as an individual, freshman Sam Yono II (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Brother Rice) rounded out the scoring with a 248 (85-83-80).
