Eastern Michigan Prepares For Wolverine Invitational

The Eagles are set to compete at the University of Michigan meet, Jan. 8
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After over one month off, the Eastern Michigan University track & field program is set to compete in its first meet of 2022, the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 8. The invitational will be hosted by the University of Michigan inside the U-M Indoor Track Building.
The Eagles last competed in Ann Arbor, Mich. at Michigan's Silverston Invitational, Feb. 21, 2020. There, the program earned 10 top-three finishes, including a victory in the 60m dash from former Eagle Hannah Hearn. Hearn's 7.46-second clip ranks ninth in program history.
Last time out, EMU impressed at Grand Valley State University's Holiday Open, Dec. 3. In Allendale, Mich., the women's team captured the team victory with 140.70 points while the men placed second with 92.20.
Graduate student Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) was the highlight of the meet, taking hold of the top weight throw spot in all of Division I with a toss of 22.56m. Furthermore, the mark is also the best in program history, topping teammate Newlyn Stephenson's (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) 22.28m performance last year at the Akron Quad Meet, Jan. 15, 2020. Stephenson achieved a distance of 21.37m to place third in the nation in the event.
On the track, senior Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory) and freshman Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich.-Cadillac) put forth stellar performances in the 800. Jones set a career-high indoor time of 1:51.68, currently the ninth-fastest time in the country. Moreover, Musta clocked in at 2:13.93 in the 800m race for a win in her first-ever collegiate track meet. Additionally, the harrier's time rounds out the top-10 in the nation.
