HUNTINGTON, W . Va. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team completed its first matches of the spring season, falling to Murray State University, 4-3, and Marshall University, 6-1, today, Jan. 28.
"This is probably one of the most difficult days of tennis on our entire schedule and it just so happened to be on our first day of competition," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "We played hard and had our chances in both matches, but just couldn't capitalize. We will need to bounce back and be more efficient as February is a big month for us."
How It Happened
Against Murray State, the freshman duo of Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) and Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) defeated the Racers in the third spot, but Eastern was unable to secure the doubles point. In singles action, Brichackova once again picked up a win, beating her Racer opponent, 6-4, 7-6, at the No. 4. spot. Redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagrappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) was victorious in the fifth slot, winning in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. In the sixth spot, redshirt sophomore Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) came out on top with a strong victory, 6-1, 6-1.
