Multis Prepare for Jet's Pizza Invitational

Three Eagles will represent the team at the Saginaw Valley State meet, Jan. 28-29
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University track & field program will see three Eagles compete this weekend at the Jet's Pizza Invitational, Jan. 28-29. The two-day meet, hosted by Saginaw Valley State University, kicks off on Friday at 11:15 a.m. and picks up at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The trio of multis competitors consists of senior Skyler Lester (Marietta, Ga.-Marietta), junior Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child), and freshman Maleah Scott (Farmington, Minn.-Farmington).
Lester recorded the fourth-best heptathlon score in school history last year, accumulating 5,167 points at the GVSU Snowdown Showdown, Feb. 5, 2021. There, Lester won four events and set personal-bests in the 60m dash (7.10), long jump (6.86m), and shot put (13.23m).
Wheeler posted a career-high pentathlon score at the same meet, earning 3,171 points for third-place. The Redford, Mich. native posted three top-three finishes, highlighted by a win in the 800 (2:22.45). Last weekend, Wheeler helped the 4x400 relay team take first at the Michigan Invitational in 3:51.61, Jan. 22.
Scott has made strides thus far in the young season, producing career-highs in the 60H (9.95) and long jump (5.03m) at the Akron Quad Meet, Jan. 14. The Farmington, Minn. native participated in the 600 at the Michigan Invitational, crossing the finish line in 1:48.25.
Following the meet at SVSU, the Eagles' distance runners will trek to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 4-5.
