Eastern Tennis Kicks Off Its Spring Season in West Virginia

The Eagles will play a doubleheader against Murray State and Marshall, Jan. 28
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team is set to start its 2022 spring season Friday, Jan. 28, with a trip to Huntington, W. Va. The Eagles will play a doubleheader against Murray State and Marshall, with the matches scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
Last season, Eastern finished with a 10-17 overall record, 1-13 in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles were led by Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-L'Adour, France-Saint Dominiquq Pau) who both earned a team-high 14 singles wins. Pelayo played mainly out of the two and three spot, while Pommiers played the majority of her matches in the four or five slot. In doubles it was Pelayo and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) leading the squad. The duo secured a 16-8 overall record, with 15 of those wins coming from the No. 2 spot. All three return to the lineup for the 2022 season.
For Murray State, the matchup against Eastern Michigan will also kick start its season. Last year the Racers finished 8-10 overall, and 4-3 in conference matchups, before losing to the No. 2 seeded Austin Peay in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Marshall already has its season in full swing, with a 2-2 overall record. The Thundering Herd have wins over Longwood (4-0), and Bellarmine (6-1), after finishing their last season 7-8.
