T47 200m FINAL RESULTS
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University track & field program saw former Eagle Brittni Mason wrap up her time at the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games having earned three medals. The Richmond Heights, Ohio native captured silver in the T47 200m final with a time of 25.00 today, Sept. 4, in Tokyo, Japan
"To be able to leave her first Paralympics with a gold, and two silver medals is an amazing accomplishment," said Associate Head Coach Chris Best. "I couldn't be any more proud of her!"
Mason was solid in her preliminary meet as she coasted to a time of 25.22 for second, automatically sending her to the final race. After hitting near her career-high mark in the event in the prelim, the Ohio product gave it her all in the final, producing a personal-best time of 25.00 for the silver medal. Lisbeli Vera Andrade of Venezuela took home gold with a career-best time of 24.52. All in all, Mason leaves Tokyo with three medals (one gold and two silver), a world record, and a personal best.
"The last couple days with the relay and 200m have made for a busy competition weekend," added Best. "Brittni handled the rounds very well and with her fourth race in two days to leave with another medal is phenomenal."
The former Eagle will continue to train and compete with the hope of returning to Japan for the 2022 World Para Athletics Championships which takes place in Kobe, Japan, Aug. 6 through Sept. 4 in Kobe, Japan.
