ITA Midwest Regional Results | Bethany Moore Invitational Results

URBANA, Ill./ MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University tennis program saw singles and doubles wins at both the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional and the third Annual Bethany Moore Invitational Friday, Sept. 24 – Saturday, Sept. 25. The ITA regional was hosted by Illinois in Urbana, Ill, while the Bethany Moore Invite was host by Ball State in Muncie, Ind.

How It Happened
In Urbana, Ill. the Eagles earned singles win from redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) against Christine Gouws of Eastern Illinois, 6-4, 6-4. The Green and White earned a pair of wins in doubles action on day two. Ganesan and redshirt sophomore Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) bested Susana Andres and Katarina Dukic of Chicago State, 8-1. The freshmen pairing of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) defeated Anastasia Rakita and Erika Dimitriev, 8-4.

"We got great quality competition in this week at two different events," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "Although our results at regionals weren't quite what we had hoped, we learned some things about our team and how we go forward to be successful in the spring."

At the third annual Bethany Moore Invitational in Muncie, Ind., redshirt junior Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem)) won the No. 5 singles bracket by defeating Ball State's Emma Hazelbaker, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in the championship match. Redshirt sophomore Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Dominique Saint Pau) won the No. 2 consolation bracket after besting Anaelle Lepinay from Tiffin, 6-3, 7-5. Redshirt freshman Asia Allen (Sanford, Fla.-Seminole (Rio Grande Valley)) earned her first singles win this fall since coming to EMU. Allen won in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, against Anika Kapoor from UW-Milwaukee. In doubles, Piatek and Pommiers partnered in the No. 2 bracket and were able to earn a win on day two against UWM's Anika Tylek and Giorgia Cavestro, 6-3.

"The ladies that played at Ball State played some phenomenal tennis," added Wiseman. "Julia was able to cap that off by winning her singles flight, so we couldn't be more pleased with those results."
