The Eagles saw strong wins from their top three doubles pairings

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team saw success in the Eagle Invitational Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2 as two EMU doubles pairings finished strong on day two.

How It Happened
Eastern's top three doubles teams all finished the weekend 2-1. The freshman duo of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) defeated pairs from Northwood and Ball State. Redshirt seniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.Imlay City (Wright State)) claimed wins over duos from Oakland and Cleveland State, and won the back end of their bracket. Additionally, redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagappa Matriculation School)) and redshirt sophomore Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) went 2-1 in partnered action besting partners from Wayne State and Illinois State, before falling to DePaul in the final. Meanwhile in singles, Vichare and Whitney both finished 2-1, while Ganesan, Pelayo and Popma were 1-1.
"This was a fantastic weekend of tennis with a great field of teams and players," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "We were able to get a number of very good matches that we will be able to learn from and improve from as we prepare for our spring season."
