The Eagles and the Badgers will dual Saturday, Sept. 25 at 9:15 a.m.
MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will continue its 2021 fall competition slate with a dual against the University of Wisconsin Saturday, Sept. 25. The races will take place on Lake Mendota beginning at 9:15 a.m.
"I like going to Wisconsin because it's relatively close to us, but it's another top-20 program we get to compete against," said Head Coach Kemp Savage. "Racing against them last year gave us a good look at speed. Seeing us now, we are starting to understand speed and I think it will help us further into the fall season."
The Eagles ended the 2021 spring regular season with races against the Badgers. The 1V8+ boat recorded the fastest time on the 2000-meter course with its best time of the season at 7:06.2, a difference of 13.70 seconds to the Badgers' first varsity eight boat (6:52.50). The Eagles defeated UW's 2V8+ squad by a three-second margin (7:09.50).
Saturday's regatta will be the second time EMU and U-W has met in a dual-style format.
The Green and White will begin the day against Wisconsin at 9:15 a.m. The race format will consist of two races at 4000 meters and four races at 1000 meters.
Spectators are welcome at the race, but Wisconsin encourages fans to abide by safety guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a path along the lake shore with the finish line at the southeast corner of Lake Mendota. Fans and parents are not allowed in or around the boathouse before, during, or after the races.
