The Eagles will head to Urbana, Ill. and Muncie, Ind. for fall contests
URBANA, Ill./MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis program is splitting up to compete in two different tournaments this coming weekend. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional will be hosted by the University of Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill. Friday, Sept. 24-26. Ball State University will also host the 3rd annual Bethany Moore Invitational in Muncie, Ind. Friday, Sept. 24-25.
Heading to Illinois to compete in the ITA Regional will be freshmen Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava), Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics), redshirt sophomore Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education), and redshirt seniors Vasavi Ganesan (Chennai, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)), Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)), and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)). Pairings for doubles competition will be Popma and Ganesan, Pelayo and Whitney, and Brichakova and Vichare.
Traveling to Muncie, Ind. will be redshirt freshman Asia Allen (Sanford, Fla.-Seminole (Rio Grande Valley)), redshirt sophomore Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau), and redshirt junior Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem)). Pommiers and Piatek will partner for doubles, while Allen's partner is yet to be assigned.
With no fall competition during the 2020-21 year, the Eagles haven't seen ITA Midwest Regional action since 2019. Former Eagle Marie Mayerova went 2-0 in singles in the contest. No current member of the Green and White has tallied a win at an ITA Regional yet in their careers. Additionally, this will be the first time that Eastern is sending players to the Ball State Bethany Moore Invitational at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Last weekend Eastern hosted the EMU Hidden Duals at the Chippewa Club with Bellarmine, Northern Kentucky, and Oakland, Sept. 17-18. Pommiers (4-0), Pelayo (3-0), Vichare (4-0), and Whitney (3-0) all finished the two day contest undefeated, kicking off fall competition in an explosive way.
Results will be made available following the conclusion of each tournament. Keep up with everything EMU tennis by visiting EMUEagles.com or follow us on Twitter (@EMUEaglesTennis), or Instagram (@EMU_Tennis).
