Volleyball Earns Three-Set Sweep Over Boston College

Three Eagles recorded 10-plus kills in the 3-0 win

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team needed only three sets (25-23, 26-24, 25-23) to defeat the Boston College Eagles Saturday, Sept. 18, inside the Convocation Center.
The win improved Eastern Michigan's overall record to 5-6 on the season. The Eagles finish the 2021 non-conference slate with an overall record of 5-6.
The Eagles offense was paced by freshman Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio-Mason), who finished with 12 kills on the day. Redshirt freshman Krista Blakely (Detroit, Mich.-University High School Academy) added 11 and redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ont.-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) chipped in with 11 as part of balanced Eastern Michigan attack. EMU got 12 digs from sophomore Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) to lead them defensively.

» Sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) had a team-high one ace in the win.
» Lockett had a team-high 12 kills for Eastern Michigan.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles opened up an early one set to none lead, winning a close first set 25-23. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as eight points, but grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that had just one lead change before the Eagles took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 26-24 victory in set two. The Eagles persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured nine lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan took the third set to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. The Eagles won the set 25-23 propelled by a strong performance on the attacking end. Eastern Michigan put together a .412 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. The Eagles opened up a 17-12 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
