Eagle Harriers Prove Solid at Wayne State Meet

Men's cross country saw two harriers finish in top-10

NEW BOSTON, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University cross country program saw several Eagles produce solid performances at the Wayne State University Warrior Challenge tonight, Sept. 10, at Willow Metropark. A total of seven EMU runners were in attendance, two of which finished in the top-10.
"It was great to give some of our athletes the chance to compete in a local meet," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "Everyone competed hard and gained some valuable experience that will help them down the road."
"The guys ran really tough today," added Head Coach Mark Rinker. "I was happy with the effort and the way we competed, Eddie did a great job leading the group today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior captain Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River) led the charge for the Green and Yellow, finishing seventh in the 8K race with a time of 25:34.7. Freshman Linus Vennemann (Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany-Gymnasium "In der Wüste") clocked in at 25:46.2 as he rounded out the top-10 at Willow Metropark. Overall, the men's team earned bronze with 65 points while Michigan Tech (42 points) won the meet and Wayne State (57 points) took silver.
Two harriers on the women's side made the trip to New Boston, Mich. in freshmen Ella Garvin (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike) and Hope Sievert (Graytown, Ohio-Oak Harbor), the first collegiate 6K race for both Eagles. Garvin notched 49th in 25:38.4 (4:16/K) while Sievert finished 69th in 28:28.5 (4:45/K).

UP NEXT
- A select number of Eagles will fly down to Tallahassee, Fla. for Florida State's FSU Open, Sept. 17, where they will battle the heat and humidity on the Seminole's Apalachee Regional Park course. The course will also serve as the site for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, thus giving the Eagles a chance to learn the terrain.
