Noriyah Johnson will join the Eagles after stint at Abilene Christian

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University track & field program and Director/Head Coach Sue Parks added international talent to the 2021-22 roster today, Aug. 6, with the signing of sprinter Noriyah Johnson (Chania, Greece-Second General (Abilene Christian)).

"Noriyah will be a great addition to our sprint group and will give us more scoring potential in the 400 and 1600 relay," said Parks. "She has competed at a high level for her country and will bring experience to our team."

Johnson, competing primarily in the 400m dash and 4x400m relay, joins a strong team of sprinters. Junior Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) paced the Eagles in the 400 last season, registering a personal-best time of 54.50 for sixth at the 2021 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships, May 8. Meanwhile, the women's 4x400 team eclipsed a season-best time of 3:42.08 to finish runner-up at the Knights Invite, April 24.

"I'm very excited to get Noriyah here this fall, she will add depth to our 400m group," said Associate Head Coach Chris Best. "She has gained experience competing at a high level internationally for her country of Greece."
