TOKYO, Japan (EMUEagles.com) –
Volunteer Coach Tori Franklin put her athleticism on full display in the triple jump in her Olympic debut. Representing the United States, the former Spartan finished the qualifying round of the women's triple jump by placing 25th with a leap of 13.68m.

"Obviously, the result wasn't what we wanted," said Associate Head Coach Sterling Roberts. "It wasn't what we trained for, and it wasn't indicative of what Tori is capable of. But unfortunately, sometimes, things just don't go your way, even on the biggest stage. I'm very proud of what she's accomplished, and she should be proud, too. And I know she will use this as motivation to continue to strive for her goals."

Franklin kicked off the event with a 13.23m bound on her first attempt. She followed this up with her best jump of the day, reaching 13.68m. Rojas Yulimar of Venezuela paced the field, soaring to 14.77m. Up next for Eastern Michigan, former Eagle Donald Scott will take on the triple jump on Monday, Aug. 2. The qualification round is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
