Former Eagle Brittni Mason Sprints Her Way to 2020 Summer Paralympics

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field family will have another former Eagle compete in Tokyo this summer. The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced the full roster, today, June 24 listing recent graduate Brittni Mason as a competitor. The Richmond Heights, Ohio native is set to represent Team USA at the 2020 Paralympic Games Tuesday, Aug. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 5, taking on the best in the world in the 100m and 200m dashes. Track & field events officially start on Friday, Aug. 27.
"We're really proud of Brittni," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "She was a big part of our success during her time at Eastern and it's exciting to see her take this next step in her athletic career."
Last weekend, Mason kicked off the summer festivities for EMU by putting her athleticism on full display at the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials in Minneapolis, Minn., June 18-19. On Friday, June 18, Mason competed in the T45/47 200m dash where she crossed the finish line in 25.14 for the win. The Ohio product then went on to capture the 100m crown in the T12/38/45/46 race in a 12.05 clip the following day, June 19.
"Extremely happy for Brittni and the work she's put in to be able to compete at such a high level," said Associate Head Coach Chris Best. "She not only gets to represent Eastern Michigan but now the USA. This is a huge accomplishment for her and I can't wait to see her compete for the gold!"
