YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The temperatures are heating up outside, but the scores are dropping as members of the Eastern Michigan University men's and women's golf teams continue their summer competition schedule.

Sophia Wygonik earned a spot in the Round of 32 at the 105th Michigan Women's Amateur at Saginaw Country Club, June 14-18. Wygonik shot a 156 (75-81) and is paired against No. 12 Olivia Reed in the opening round of match play.

Stroke play lasted 36 holes to determine the low 32 players for match play. Match play starts on Wednesday, June 16, with the Round of 32. On Thursday, June 17, the Round of 16 and Round of 8 will occur with 36 holes total. The tournament will wrap up on Friday, June 18, with the semifinal and final matches for another 36 holes.

On the men's side, five Eagles made the 36-hole cut at The Michigan Open, June 11-14, at the Grand Traverse Bear course.  The Michigan Open, one of the state's longest-running golf events, began in 1916 and was first won by Leo Diegel, who also played in the inaugural Ryder Cup matches and The Masters.

Tyler Rayman was tied for eighth, Brett White in a tie for 11th, Bryan Haase was tied for 14th, Zach Sudinsky in a tie for 25th, and Patrick Deardorff was tied for 38th.

Additionally, Ty Celone finished second with rounds of 73 and 71 at The Toronto Open. Eddie Maunder tied for seventh and Jake McNulty tied for 32nd at the event.
