NCAA EAST PREMILINARY CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE

EAST MEN'S PARTICIPANTS | EAST WOMEN'S PARTICIPANTS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University track & field program hopes to make a splash on the first day of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Wednesday, May 26. The regional meet, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

The opening day of the four-day meet will see only the men competing, starting with the hammer throw. EMU has four throwers ready to prove themselves against the best in the east: sophomore Kappa Bedoui (Doha, Qatar-Aspire Academy), senior Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Academy), and graduate students Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) and Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron). The quartet is third in the nation in the event according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, with an average season-high toss of 64.96m. The University of Minnesota tops the list in Division I with 65.04m per heave.

At 3 p.m. redshirt senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Bethany College)) will take on the field in the long jump. Furthermore, senior Chukwusom Enekwechi (Valley Stream, N.Y.-Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences (Monroe College)) looks to impress in the shot put while junior Payne Wylie (Elstow, Saskatchewan-Colonsay School) is set for the 110m hurdles with both events commencing at 6 p.m.

Later in the day, sophomore Dante Lander (Dayton, Ohio-West Carrollton (Central Michigan)) will display his best in the 400m hurdles at 8:20 p.m. Lastly, first-year sprinter Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) caps off the first day of action for the Eagles in the 200m dash at 8:45 p.m.

With the cancellation of last year's outdoor season, the Eagles have not participated in regionals since the 2018-19 season. That season saw former Eagles Nick Herbert (Long Jump), Alex Jacobs (Pole Vault), Terrell Posada (100m), Tyler Underwood (400m), Derek Ziegenfuss (Javelin), and then-sophomore Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) (400m) compete on the men's side.

More Eagles will take the stage on Thursday, May 27, at 1:30 p.m., while Friday-Saturday's events, May 28-29, are set to begin at 1 p.m. For updates on all things Eastern Michigan cross country and track and field, continue to check EMUEagles.com or follow the team on Instagram, @EMUXC_TF, and Twitter, @EMUXC_TF.
