The 1V8+ boat posted its fastest time of the season

MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team finished its 2021 spring regular-season schedule at No. 20 University of Wisconsin today, May 1. The races took place on Lake Mendota in Madison, Wis.

"Racing against Wisconsin was a great opportunity for us to test our ability to travel and race," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "We've been needing more opportunities to race and see higher competition levels across all boats. The way it was set up today, all our boats earned the chance to test our speed and start our final prep for CAA's. We want to thank Wisconsin for setting up the race and giving us a shot to race another top-20 program this year."

The 1V8+ boat recorded the fastest time of the day on the 2000-meter course with its best time of the season at 7:06.2, a difference of 13.70 seconds to the Badgers' first varsity eight boat (6:52.50). The Eagles defeated UW's 2V8+ squad by a three-second margin (7:09.50).

Additionally, the 2V8+ squad finished with a time of 7:42.50, a difference of 21.4 seconds to Wisconsin's first novice eight team. The Green and White's V3+ team also crossed the finish line in 8:27.30 in a 2,000-meter race against UW's 2N8+ boat.

In the 1V4+ race, EMU clocked in at 8:59.10, a 55.4-second difference from the top boat.

Eastern Michigan will have a two-week break before the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships Sunday, May 16. The races will take place on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. More event details will be available on EMUEagles.com closer to the race date.
