SILVER LAKE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team will compete at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Saturday, April 23-24, hosted by the University of Akron at Silver Lake Country Club. The two-day event will consist of 54 holes on the par-72, 6,227-yard course for the 10 MAC schools that sponsor women's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan.

The Eagles enter the tournament with the 16th lowest four-player team scoring average in program history at 313.3. Overall, Eastern Michigan has finished in the top-five at a pair of tournaments this season, including most recently a runner-up showing at the Akron Invitational, April 16-17.

Individually, sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) leads the team with an average of 75.47. Freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) follows with a 78.80 season average, while senior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) has put together a solid campaign of her own, scoring an average of 79.53 this year.

Third-year Head Coach Stephanie Jennings and the Eagles look to spoil Kent State's run at history. The Golden Flashes have won 21 straight league championships, winning the 2019 tournament by 15 strokes after shooting an 850 (305-278-277).

The Golden Flashes are ranked No. 13 in Golfstat's national rankings followed by Northern Illinois (113), Akron (158), Ball State (161), Central Michigan (188), Eastern Michigan (191), Toledo (192), Bowling Green (197), Ohio (203), and Western Michigan (211).

After last year's MAC Championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eastern Michigan will be playing for a league title for the first time in 733 days. In 2019, the Eagles tied with Ball State for fourth with a three-day cumulative score of 923 (324-308-291). Connelly and senior Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand -Siam International) finished in 19th-place with a score of 228, while Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand- The Regent's International School) took 28th, shooting a 234 (83-78-73) across the 54-hole event.

EMU has been the most likely candidate to challenge Kent State for the top spot at the event, as the Eagles' seven runner-up finishes at the MAC Championship since 2003 are the most of any team in the league. The Green and White has placed second in 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015.

Ohio (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005), Toledo (2006, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019), Ball State (2010, 2012), Western Michigan (2004), and Northern Illinois (2017) are the only other teams to record a second-place finish in the history of the tournament.

The winner of the 2021 MAC Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA regional round, May 10-12, at one of the four regional locations. The possible sites include Baton Rouge, La. (University Club), Columbus, Ohio (OSU Golf Club – Scarlet Course), Louisville, Ky. (University of Louisville Golf Club), and Stanford, Calif. (Stanford Golf Course). Followed by the NCAA Championships set to be May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The tournament will begin Friday with EMU's tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.

Live scoring will be available via Golfstat. Unofficial scores will be reported every hole. The four lowest scores of the team will count each day as a team total.  To follow the live scoring at the 2021 MAC Women's Golf Championship, click here.
