ATHENS, Ga. & ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
Facing rainy conditions, the Eastern Michigan University track & field program continued to set the bar high as the Eagles saw two individuals set school records at the Spec Towns Invitational, April 9-10, in Athens, Ga. In total, EMU broke three school records at the Georgia meet, all of which came in the field.

"The weather didn't cooperate today but it's all about competing and I think that we did a nice job," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "It was great to come away with two more school records and a number of personal bests. Between the results in Georgia and at Oakland, it was a strong weekend for us. We need to continue to build on this momentum in the coming weeks."

Coming into the Peach State meet, senior Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) already occupied the No. 2 all-time shot put mark in indoor program history with a distance of 15.29m. Now, with her 14.83m outdoor toss today, the Jamaica product is the outright leader in the EMU record book. Clarke's heave tops former Eagle Vesna Cadikovsk's 14.38m mark set in 2001.

Moreover, freshman teammate Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) improved upon her school-record discus throw, this time reaching 45.66m for third place in the event. The Illinois native also notched a personal-best in the shot put with a 12.58m heave for sixth place. Elsewhere in the field, graduate students Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) and Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) went 2-3 in the discus with throws of 51.16m and 50.03m, respectively.

The men's side captured the 4x400m relay event title as the 'A' team crew of sophomore Frankie Grey (Brentwood, N.Y.-Brentwood), senior Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School), junior Dante Lander (Dayton, Ohio-West Carollton (Central Michigan)), and sophomore Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-Greer (Coastal Carolina)) ran a blazing 3:15.65 time.

Junior Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory) produced a time of 1:51.47 in the 800m race, setting a new career-high time and placing third overall. A pair of Eagles had career days in the event as well, with juniors Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child) and Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Maria Villa Academy) achieving times of 2:13.95 and 2:14.65, respectively.

Back in Michigan, EMU saw its runners and one jumper take on local competition from Division I, II, and NAIA at the Oakland Track and Field Complex. The men's side claimed sixth overall with 18 points, with the team only competing in the 1500m run. In the event, the Green and Yellow harriers recorded eight top-10 finishes, with freshman Linus Vennemann (Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany-Gymnasium "In der Wüste") winning it all for the Eagles in 3:54.44. Classmate Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) crossed the finish line in 3:55.06, just behind Vennemann.

The women's team only sent five individuals to the Golden Grizzlies Invite, where the squad earned 12 points for seventh place. In the long jump, freshman Antonia Woods (Winchester, Ohio-Groveport Madison) claimed second place with a personal-best distance of 5.40m. On the track, junior Kaitlyn St. Bernard (Newport, Mich.-Jefferson) registered a fourth-place finish in the 5000m run with an 18:06.21 time.

"We wanted to get the distance guys a good 1,500 this weekend to start the outdoor season," said Assistant Coach Mark Rinker. "They raced hard and we had a lot of PR's, I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do the rest of the season. I was also excited for Antonia's PR in the Long Jump!"

Eastern Michigan will venture south next week when they take on nearly twenty Division I institutions at Eastern Kentucky's Rick Erdmann Twilight meet. The two-day meet will take place Friday-Saturday, April 16-17, in Richmond, Ky. on EKU's newly refurbished Tom Samuels Track. Friday action is set for 11 a.m. while Saturday competition commences at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, other members of the Green and White will be participating at the Grizzly PR Classic, Saturday, April 17, at 12 p.m.
