Steelers Sign Mathew Sexton After Pro Day Workout

Sexton went undrafted in 2020 after having 508 receiving yards and four TDs in 2019
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University wide receiver Mathew Sexton (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers today, March 31. Sexton, who participated in Michigan State University's Pro Day, was previously a part of The Spring League's Aviators roster in San Antonio, Texas.
Sexton went undrafted in 2020 after having 508 receiving yards on 34 receptions and four touchdowns in 2019. In his four-year career at Eastern Michigan, Sexton totaled 100 catches for 1,335 yards and nine scores. His 1,335 career yards rank 13th in school history. Additionally, with his one grab at Northern Illinois in 2019, he became the 15th EMU player with 100-or-more catches in a career. Sexton also proved key in special teams with two punt blocks. With the likelihood of winning sitting at 0.1 percent according to ESPN, he made the game-winning play against Central Connecticut State with a blocked punt and return of 30 yards for a touchdown in a 34-29 victory. His other block occurred during the 2018 Camellia Bowl against Georgia Southern.
With the cancellation of the majority of pro days in 2020, players who are not currently under contract by an NFL team and would have participated last year have been allowed to return in order to showcase their skills.
