PEORIA, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team will hit the road to Peoria, Ill. to challenge Bradley University and the University of Illinois-Chicago, Saturday, Feb. 13. The doubleheader day for the Eagles will start at 12 p.m. CT against the Braves and followed by the Flames at 4 p.m. CT.

Eastern (2-2; 0-0 MAC) comes into the weekend looking to rebound from a 0-7 loss, suffered at Xavier, Feb. 6. The Green and White were able to secure a 4-3 win over Dayton, Feb. 5, to go 1-1 for the week. Bradley (0-1; 0-0 MVC) recently opened its season against DePaul, falling 2-5. BU will compete against UIC, Feb. 12, ahead of its contest with the Eagles. The Flames (1-2; 0-0 Horizon) last match ended in a 6-1 win over the Flyers, Feb. 6.

In doubles action, redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio Cebes) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City) recently earned a 2-0 record at the No. 2 spot, at Dayton (Feb. 5) and at Xavier (Feb. 6), pushing Eastern to 4-0 this season in the spot. For their efforts, the duo was named Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week, Feb. 10, by the league office, and move to a 2-2 record in 2021. Redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School) and redshirt sophomore Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) also earned a win against the Flyers, their first in the No. 1 spot, and moving the partnership to 3-1 on the season.

Pelayo and redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-I'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) are the Green and Whites leaders in singles play, both holding a 3-1 record so far this season, playing in the No. 3 and No. 5 spot, respectively. Furthermore, both players won in straight sets at Dayton, Feb. 5, and earned their first loss of the year at Xavier, Feb. 6. Earning the match securing point for EMU against the Flyers was Ganesan, collecting her first singles win of the season.
