Six Eagles score in double digits en route to 133-45 win

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team set a program record in points, defeating Grace Christian University, 133-45, tonight, inside the Convocation Center.
The Eagles (2-1, 0-0 MAC) saw six players score in double figures, led by freshman Treasure Thompson (Joliet, Ill.-Bolingbrook (Louisiana State)) with 21 points and redshirt senior Danielle Rainey (Cedar Park, Texas-Vista Ridge (Florida)) with 20. Redshirt senior Areanna Combs (Oklahoma City, Okla.-Putnam City West (Oklahoma State)) put on a well-rounded performance, recording a triple-double with 12 points, 11 assists, and 10 steals.
Defensively, redshirt Juanita Agosto (Seattle, Wash.-Garfield) paced the team in rebounds with ten, including nine on the offensive glass. Additionally, Thompson was defiant around the basket with three blocks while Combs chipped in with a pair.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 16-9 advantage, Eastern Michigan went on a 22-0 run with 4:19 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from redshirt junior RayJon Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid), to increase its lead to 38-9, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. The Eagles scored most of their baskets in the paint, with 22 of its 38 points close to the basket.
EMU built that first-quarter lead to 47-13 before going on a 13-0 run starting at the 6:14 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Thompson, to increase its lead to 60-13. The Eagles proceeded to tack on five points to take a 71-19 advantage heading into halftime.
Following intermission, the Green and White continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 80-23 before going on a 15-0 run. Before the third period was over, the Eagles added five points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 110-33 edge. Eastern Michigan continued to expand its lead, ultimately winning 133-45.

» Combs became the fourth Eagle to record a triple-double, joining former Eagles Stephanie Smiley (11 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists - Jan. 26, 2000), Ryan Coleman (21 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists - Feb. 12, 2005), and Cassie Schrock (11 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists - Nov. 16, 2009).
» Additionally, Combs is one of just six players in the nation with a triple-double so far this season.
