Eagles Drop Four-Set Match to Ball State

Jayden Otto moves into top-10 on all-time assist list
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell Friday as the Ball State University Cardinals posted a 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 19-25, 24-26) win at the Convocation Center.
The loss dropped Eastern Michigan's record to 9-18 overall and 4-12 in MAC play.
Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) finished with 19 kills on the day to lead the Eagles attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .516. EMU got 18 digs from Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) along with five blocks from Chase to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set, 25-18. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as nine points as Ball State never gave up the lead in the set.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan fired back from a first-set loss to take set two, 25-22, evening the match at one set apiece. The Eagles never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that had just one lead change before the Eagles took over the for good. The Eastern Michigan offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Ball State grabbed a 2-1 match lead after defeating the Eagles in the third set. The Eagles dropped the set 25-19. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as nine points as Ball State grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up five times before the Cardinals took control.
SET 4 | Eastern Michigan then fell in the fourth set, 26-24, as Ball State closed the match. The Eagles couldn't endure a ferocious Ball State rally, falling after leading by eight points at 18-10 earlier in the set.

» Bella Hommes (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Northern) had a team-high three aces in the loss.
» Chase had a team-high 19 kills for Eastern Michigan.
» Eastern Michigan attackers were helped by a team-high 35 assists from Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge).
»Otto has led EMU is assists every match this season.
»The match was Stilwell's 20th outing of the season with at least 15 digs.

»This was the 81st all-time meeting between the two schools. Ball State leads the all-time series, 54-27.
» Otto had 35 assists to move into the top-10 in program history. Otto passed Jill Brinner (1,943 assists) for 10th all-time.
