Women's Basketball Takes Down Concordia In Exhibition Game, 85-61

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team had 11 fewer turnovers than Concordia University (Ann Arbor) in an 85-61 exhibition victory over the Cardinals at home Monday, Nov. 1.
The Eagles had three players score in double figures, led by redshirt senior Danielle Rainey (Cedar Park, Texas-Vista Ridge-Florida), who had 18 points. Redshirt junior RayJon Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) tacked on 16 points, six rebounds and four blocks and freshman Lachelle Austin (Redford, Mich.-Wayne Memorial) contributed as well with 14 points and four steals.
Led by freshman Treasure Thompson's (Joliet, Ill.-Bolingbrook-Louisiana State) four offensive rebounds, Eastern Michigan did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 23 boards that resulted in 21 second chance points.
Eastern Michigan was successful in disrupting Concordia shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Harris' four rejections led the way individually for the Eagles.
How It Happened
Eastern Michigan kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 24-21.
The Eagles chipped away at that deficit and built a 35-32 lead before going on a 9-0 run to increase its lead to 44-32. The Eagles proceeded to tack on four points to that lead and enjoyed a 51-35 advantage heading into halftime. Eastern Michigan was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 30 points.
Following intermission, Eastern Michigan continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 64-43 before going on a 5-0 run to expand its lead further to 69-43 with 2:06 to go in the third. The Eagles held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 72-46 edge. Eastern Michigan played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 21 points in the paint.
The Eagles then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Eastern Michigan got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring four of its 13 total points.
