Volleyball Secures Five-Set Win Over Ohio

Samantha Basham and Annie Lockett register double-doubles
ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic) and freshman Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio-Mason) each notched double-doubles to help lead the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team to a 3-2 win (25-23, 15-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-13) over Ohio University this afternoon, Oct. 8, on the road at Convocation Center.
The victory moved the Eagles' record to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Eagles were led by the double-doubles from Lockett, who had 13 kills and a personal-best 13 digs, and Basham, who had a career-high 23 kills and 10 digs. Redshirt freshman Krista Blakely (Detroit, Mich.-University High School Academy) added 11 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, sophomore Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) chipped in for EMU with 17 digs to go with five blocks from redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic).

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied seven times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan lost the second set 25-15 to even the match 1-1. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 10 points as Ohio grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was knotted up just once before the Bobcats took over the lead.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan lost again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Eagles came up short by the score of 25-21. Ohio grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up two times before the Bobcats took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Eastern Michigan broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 26-24 victory in set number four. The Eagles came out on top of a tight battle, winning in a stanza that was tied six times and had two lead changes. The Eagles win came in a stanza where 19 of their 26 points came via the kill.
SET 5 | Eastern Michigan rebounded from down 2-1 to take two straight sets, culminating in a 15-13 fifth-set victory, and lock down the 3-2 win. The Eagles persevered in a back-and-forth final set to emerge victorious in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied six times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
