YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – On a gloomy, overcast Thursday afternoon, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped its home contest versus Buffalo, 2-1, at Scicluna Field.
The result brings the Eagles' overall record to 2-8-2 on the season and their MAC record to 1-3-1.
"We played a lot of good soccer today," Head Coach Scott Hall said postgame. "We battled and matched up evenly with a very talented Buffalo team. The challenge for us now is how to make games easier on ourselves, like finishing our quality chances that we are creating and playing through the pressure of a high pressing team on a consistent basis."
Redshirt junior Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) tallied her second goal of the 2021 camaign while sophomore Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) notched a game-high four total shots and a shot on goal. Freshman Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich.-Bay City) earned her first collegiate assist on Olson's score.
Fellow freshman Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Catholic) added a shot on goal and senior Haley Tausend (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) also recorded a shot for the Green and White's attack.
How It Happened
The two squads finished the first half knotted at zero after both defenses held strong for the first 45 minutes. Early on the second half, the Eagles struck first when Olson scored in the bottom left corner of the net on an entry pass from Lukowski to give EMU the one-goal advantage in the 49th minute.
The Eagles would hold on to the second half lead for a dozen mintes until the Bulls netted the equalizer in the 61st minute. The two teams would remain tied until the 88th minute when Buffalo scored the go-ahead, game-winning, goal into the top left corner of the net to take control.
