WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in ninth place Tuesday, Oct. 12, as play concluded at the Purdue Fall Invitational on the Kampen Golf Course.
EMU shot a final round 288 to finish with an 883 (299-286-288). Working around multiple weather delays throughout the event, Indiana (289-288-281=858) claimed the team title and bested Purdue by one stroke. Individually, Purdue's Herman Wibe Sekne earned the top spot on the leaderboard.
Seniors Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) and Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) shared top-billing for the Eagles, as the duo tied for 14th with a 216. Celone closed with a round of 70, while Collins added a 74
Classmate Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) added a 226 (75-75-76) for 45th, while MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) closed with a 69 for a 230 (80-81-69) in 60th. Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) was the fourth EMU student-athlete to notch a better third round than his second, adding a 232 (80-77-75).
Playing as an individual, Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) finished with a 241 (83-82-76).
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew closes out the fall this weekend at the Wolfpack Invitational, Oct. 16-17, in Raleigh, N.C.
