BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
-- The Eastern Michigan Track & Field picked up a trio of event wins at the Sid Sink Invitational today, Jan. 29, inside the Perry Field House. The meet featured three other Mid-American Conference opponents: Ball State, Bowling Green (host), and Northern Illinois. The invitational featured only one men's event (mile), however EMU did not compete.

On the track, the Eagles participated in a pair of events, the 60m hurdles and the 200m dash. Junior Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peter's) captured the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds. For Wade, she has not lost a 60m hurdles event since placing fourth at the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 21, 2020. Meanwhile, junior Nina Ward (Fairfield, Ohio-Fairfield) recorded a career-best 60m hurdles time of 9.53, good for seventh place. Her previous best came last week at the Mike Lints Alumni Open where registered a 10.02 clip, Jan. 23.

Junior sprinter Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) ran a 25.35 in the 200m dash to take third place while senior Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start) finished fifth with a 25.87 time. In the 800m, junior Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child) was the runner-up as she crossed the finish line in 2:17.8.

The Eagles have been especially strong in the field so far this season, and this evening's showing was no different. The Green and White swept the podium in the long jump as Ward took home the win with an impressive 5.53m leap. Redshirt sophomore Brenna Cavanaugh (Bentleyville, Pa.-Bentworth) followed closely behind with a 5.30m jump and junior Morgan Iverson (Hoschton, Ga. Mill Creek) recorded a 4.97 for third place.

Graduate student Alisha St. Louis (D'abadie, Trinidad and Tobago-St. Francois Girls College (Johnson C. University)) grabbed the top spot in the triple jump with a strong 11.41m bound. The Trinidad and Tobago native has won the triple jump in two out of three events so far in her career at Eastern. Sophomore Nya Lakin (Dacula, Ga.-Mill Creek) placed third with a leap of 10.99m.

Additionally, the throwers had a solid showing with multiple Eagles attaining new career-best marks. Senior Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) produced a weight throw of 18.94m to finish second in the event. Meanwhile, classmate Ariel Floyd (Mount Clemens, Mich.-Chippewa Valley (Olivet College)) recorded a 18.39m toss to register a career-high in the weight throw. Moreover, senior Savanah Luthman (Minster, Ohio-Minster) and sophomore Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield-Ill.-Plainfield South) both notched personal-bests in the weight throw with heaves of 17.00m and 17.11m, respectively.

For Eastern, the team will head back west to Grand Valley State University for the GVSU Open in Allendale, Mich, Feb. 6. Events will begin at 1 p.m. inside the Kelly Sports Center.
