Baldvin Magnusson Named Men's Track Athlete of the Week

The Akureyri, Iceland native tops the MAC in the 3000m
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University track and field junior harrier Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today, Jan. 27. This marks the second weekly honor in Magnusson's collegiate career, and the second weekly award for the men's track and field program this season.
Magnusson leads the MAC in the 3000m run after blowing away the competition at the Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grandy Valley State University Saturday, Jan. 27. The Akureyri, Iceland native finished the race in 8:05.34, a mark that paces the conference by nearly 10 seconds.
The junior's time came just shy of beating his career-high 8:03.28 clip that he set at the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 8, 2020. Along with leading the MAC, his time ranks 16th in Division I, just three seconds off from cracking the top-10.
Up next, EMU will participate in two meets simultaneously. On Friday, most of the team will be competeing at the Sid Sink Invitational hosted by Bowling Green State University. Meanwhile, multi-event members will be at the Jet's Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State University, Jan. 29-30.
