EMU Athletics applauds the accomplishments of the Class of 2020
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Athletics celebrates the achievements of the women's golf team senior trio of Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne), Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community (Tampa)), and Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford).
Connelly achieved three top-15 finishes during her time at EMU, as well as a trio of par rounds during the 2018-19 campaign.During her final season at Eastern, she participated in seven tournaments, recording an average of 76.90. The LaSalle, Ontario native notched a career-best third-place finish with a 147 (76-71) at the Low Country Invitational, as EMU took the top-three spots in a tournament for the first time in its history. In addition, she tallied a score of 72 during the third round of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational and tied for 12th with a 228 (78-74-76) in the season-opening tournament, the Cardinal Classic.
Connelly is a two-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection as well as three-time Women's Golf Coaches Association Scholar All-America honoree while studying accounting.
Joining the Eagles from the University of Tampa, Lawson posted four top-15 finishes during her career in the Green and White. During the 2019-20 season, Lawson participated in seven tournaments with an average score of 79.25, including a low-round score of 73 in the first round of the Shirley Spork Invitational, where she finished tied for 12th. She also tied for 13th at the Low Country Invitational with a 152 (78-74).
Lawson was twice named to the Academic All-MAC team as well as a WGCA Scholar All-American on three occasions. She is pursuing a degree in criminology.
Stevenson finishes her career as an Eagle after posting five top-15 finishes, as well as putting together a four-match undefeated streak at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in 2018. In her senior season, Stevenson played in 20 rounds, posting a team-best average 75.75. She notched a top-five showing at the Shirley Spork Invitational when she finished third with a 217 (72-72-73), and fired a 145 (74-71) to take runner-up honors as EMU swept the top three individual spots at the Low Country Invitational. The Milford, Mich. native tied for seventh with a 224 (73-76-75) in the season opener, Cardinal Classic, and recorded a low-round of 72 in the first and second rounds of the Shirley Spork Invitational.
