Kara Roberts earns career-highs on floor and vault

ATHENS, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team competed in a triangular at the University of Georgia against host-Georgia and Ball State University Friday, Feb. 14. The Eagles finished in third-place, scoring 194.700 overall and were slightly edged by BSU's score of 194.725. The Bulldogs claimed first with an overall score of 197.075.

"It was a great experience to compete in such an electric event." said Head Coach Katie Minasola "We had some great individual performances today but we are always looking to improve. Sunday we have another opportunity to showcase our talents."

Eastern started the night on bars and was led by junior Jada Rondeau (Savage, Minn.-Central), who tied her career-high of 9.850, earning a second-place finish. The junior was followed by sophomore Kara Roberts (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney), scoring 9.750, tying for sixth. Junior Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) added a score of 9.725 and tying for eight, but the Eagles finished the first rotation in third place, behind Georgia (49.300) and Ball State (48.800).

Moving to beam, the Green and White attempted to make a push for second. Sophomore Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) paced the squad with a 9.800, tying for sixth. Junior Brianna Price (Kings Mountain, N.C.-Homeschool) followed behind Satler with a score of 9.775, tying for eighth place. Both Roberts and senior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) added scores of 9.750, which tied for 12th. After two rotations, the Eagles remained in third-place with a score of 97.025.

Eastern Michigan picked it up on floor with a big 9.875 from Dobronics, tying for third place. Roberts posted a career-high of 9.850, good for eighth, while Satler and Rondeau both chipped in scores of 9.825, both tying for ninth. Freshman Mickayla Stuckey (Union City, Ind.-Indiana Connections Academy) rounded out the scoring five, earning a 9.750. The Eagles overtook the Cardinals for second place by a narrow margin, 146.150-146.075. Georgia remained firmly in first with its score of 147.575.

EMU closed out the meet on vault and Roberts led the way with another career-high, scoring 9.825, good to tie for seventh. Junior Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline) scored a 9.750 and was followed closely by freshman Hannah Hartung (Lincoln, Neb.-Lincoln East) score of 9.725, as they claimed 12th and 14th, respectively. Dobronics and sophomore Carly Kosanovich (Moon Twp, Pa.-Moon Area) closed out the scorers, earning 9.625's. The Eagles were unable to hang onto their lead over BSU, as they finished third with a score of 194.700.

Rondeau finished the all-around competition in third-place, scoring 38.950. UGA's Rachael Lukacs (39.300) and Sabrina Vega (39.275) claimed the one and two spots, while Ball State's Marissa Nychyk finished in fourth (38.825).
 
The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they fly back to the Midwest to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State in a Mid-American Conference meet inside Worthen Arena Sunday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. Live results and stream will be available by visiting the gymnastics schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
