Track & Field Announces 2021 Indoor Schedule

12/17/2020 10:05:00 AM | Men's Track & Field, Women's Track & Field

Competition begins Jan. 15 in Akron, Ohio

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University track & field announced its abbreviated 2021 indoor season today, Dec. 17. The first stanza of the track and field campaign will consist of six regular-season meets, including the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, Feb. 26-27, hosted by Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark. at the Randal Tyson Center.

"We're excited to have the opportunity to compete," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "We feel that this schedule gives us a chance to have strong competition in all event areas.  All of our athletes have been training hard under difficult circumstances and it will be great to see them put on a uniform and test themselves.  It will be amazing to kick off the new era of our combined program at Akron on Jan. 15th."

For Eastern, this will be the first indoor schedule without a home meet for both teams since the 2017-18 season.

The Eagles will open up their indoor slate with a trip to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Quad Meet on Jan. 15, inside the Stile Athletic Fieldhouse. The following week, the Green and White will travel west for Grand Valley State's Mike Lints Alumni Open, Jan. 23, in Allendale, Mich. Eastern will wrap-up the month of January in Bowling Green, Ohio as they compete in the Sid Sink Invitational, Jan. 29.

From there, EMU will head to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational, Feb. 6. The Eagles return to Allendale, Mich. once more for a two-day event at the GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 12-13. The Green and White will then have a brief break before traveling to Mount Pleasant for the Indoor MAC Championships, Feb. 26-27.

Last season, both track and field teams had their season's canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However,  both programs still saw great success in a short period of time.

For the men, the Green and White set seven meet records at the Can-Am International, Jan. 25, 2020, as they won eight individual victories and had fifteen podium finishes at the home meet. At the conference meet, four Eagles combined to earn six individual titles as the team finished second with 142 points. At the Doug Hansen Open, the women's team earned 10 individual titles out of 11 total events, Jan. 17, 2020. The women finished the 2020 season on an extremely high-note, edging second-place Northern Illinois at the MAC Indoor Championships for their fourth MAC indoor title in six seasons, Feb. 29, 2020.
