The Eagles clinched first place in six events at last year's home meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returns to action Saturday, Jan. 25 as it hosts the Can-Am International at Bob Parks Track inside Bowen Field House. This marks the second consecutive season in which the Eagles have hosted an indoor meet.
Eastern will welcome Mid-American Conference opponents Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan, along with intrastate contenders Detroit Mercy and Oakland. In addition to Big East Conference foe Xavier, five Canadian programs will cross the border to take part in this meet, as McMaster, Toronto, Waterloo, Western Ontario, and Windsor are all scheduled to compete.
The Eagles captured a half-dozen event titles at the Can-Am International last season, Jan. 26, 2019. Then-sophomore Michaela Nelms (Rocky Mount, N.C.-Nash Central) topped the podium in both the 200-meter and 400-meter sprints with times of 24.64 and 55.24 seconds, respectively. Former EMU harrier Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) earned the top time in the mile run at 4:52.77, finishing more than eight seconds faster than the rest of the pack.
