EMU will participate in five regular season competitions
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Cross Country Coach John Goodridge revealed the program's 2019 schedule Friday, August 2. The Green and White will compete in five regular season meets with aims of securing the program's 23rd Mid-American Conference title.
"We have a very challenging and exciting schedule ahead, beginning Aug. 30 at the Michigan Open," noted Goodridge. "The two trips to Indiana State, the site of the NCAA National Championships, will provide us with the opportunity to face many strong regional and national-level teams. We are also traveling to Lehigh University for a very competitive event which attracts a large field of strong teams."
The Eagles open their 2019 campaign in the Mitten, participating in the Michigan Open Friday, Aug. 30 in Dexter, Mich. EMU most recently competed in the meet during their 2017 campaign, collecting six top-20 finishes.
After a three-week hiatus, Eastern continues its season at the Indiana State McNichols Invitational Saturday, Sept. 21 in Terre Haute, Indiana. The invite provides the squad a chance to get their feet wet on the course that will host the 2019 NCAA National Championships Nov. 23.
EMU rounds out their regular season with three challenging meets, including a trip to the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 5 in Bethlehem, Pa., before heading back to Terre Haute to compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals Saturday, Oct. 19. Just six days later, the Eagles will host the annual EMU Fall Classic Friday, October 25 in Dexter, Mich., the squad's final chance to find its footing before postseason action begins the next Saturday.
The Green and White then head to DeKalb, Ill. for the 2019 MAC Championships, Nov. 2. EMU looks to add to its conference-leading 22 titles, aiming to bring home the program's 23rd conference championship and first since the 2017 season. Following a week off, the Eagles continuing their schedule by traveling to Madison, Wis. for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Friday, Nov. 15, looking to secure a top-two finish at regionals or be selected as an at-large bid to move on to the NCAA Championships. The national championship meet will be held Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind. Furthermore, if EMU qualifies to the NCAA title chase as a team, it will mark the first time since the 2005 season.
